An Ode to Yankovic

Oh Al, is it ok if I call you Al? Should I call you weird instead? Haha.
I heard about you in the news today, well I saw a video about you on the old YouTube.
It said you were going to do a parody of Lady Gaga's Born This Way. I listened.
It was great, hilarious even.
I began to think to myself just how long I have had you in my life.
Your earliest work that I can remember is "Fat" the delightful dancey number-to the tune of Michael Jacksons 'Bad' a song about being grotesquely obese and not caring a damn bit. Americana at it's finest.
That song/video was a huge hit in 1988, I was 5 years old in 1988. How amazing is it that after all this time, all those songs, all those videos I can still laugh at your comedy, your schtick if you will.
I want to commend you Al, for your class. After all these years I have heard no scandal about you. You have no mug-shot, no DUI's, no upskirt shots. (too lazy to verify that). Come to think of it I don't know if I've ever even heard you swear. You are like a rock, a pillar to the comedic community.
You have managed to find the perfect balance between pop culture relevance, cheesy tongue in cheek adult humour, and non offensive fun for the kids.  You are truly fun for the whole family.
How is it that a young, frizzy haired accordian-playing kid from Lynwood California has been able to have more staying power than some of my favourite bands?
I tip my hat to you friend, to the best parody song writer ever.
Weird Al- Americas most hilarious dude.

With Love
Trisharella

  1. I hate to break it to you, but Weird Al and Coolio went head to head back in the 90s over Gangsta's Paradise. Apparently Coolio didn't find any humor in Al's parody version. Coolio later apologized.

Happy ending to a sad dispute.
