Frugality during the winter months can lead to extended bouts of couch sitting and internet surfing.
I find it hard to not spend money when I leave the house , what else is there to do really besides
shopping?
As a child I would jump into my snowpants after dinner run into the backyard plop down in the
drifts and lay for hours staring at the stars daydreaming of aliens and infinity.
If I were to try that now, as a 27 year old woman, I'm sure my neighbors would be on the phone
in a heartbeat, knowing something like this would have happened sooner or later.
At a loss as to how to get out of the house without going broke and missing a mortgage payment,
I called my sister and we decided to go to the Dollarama.
First off It's hilarious there! Most people there on a Wednesday after lunch are seniors with crazy
attitudes, an aura of stale farts and scoth mints permeates the air. The shelves are jam packed with
everything from misspelled food products to unassuming glassware.
I was there on a mission...... crafts!
Art supplies really, did you know you can buy canvasses at the dollar store?
You do now.
They vary in size with the largest being 40 by 30 cm which is great if like me you are just pretending
to be an artist, so you don't have to spend another blustery evening flicking and flicking through
all the channels, eventually giving up and sulking off to bed.
I brought out the paints after dinner and settled in to do my first painting since grade 7 art class
Therapy! I felt loose relaxed creative and best of all no annoying commercials!
I listened to my new obsession 'White Hinterland' and plotted my colours and context
I must say without my pervy art teacher looking over my shoulder I did great.
The moral of this story is I have found a new hobbie, I wish you all can find something to fill the
long winter nights.
My first painting-sorta lame-but it's my first!
Listen to this while you read all the rest of my ramblings
Bonus:
Another gem from the dollar store.
A tiny hat, just what I've always wanted!
